What are the common faults of vehicle sensors?

These devices can generate electromagnetic fields that can interfere with the operation of sensors. For example, the radar sensors used in advanced driver – assistance systems (ADAS) can be affected by EMI, leading to false detections or loss of signal.

6. Software and Calibration Issues

In addition to hardware problems, software and calibration issues can also cause sensor faults. The software that controls the sensors and processes their data may contain bugs or glitches. These software issues can lead to incorrect interpretation of sensor readings or improper communication between the sensor and the ECU. For example, a software bug in the airbag sensor system could prevent the airbag from deploying in a crash situation.

Calibration errors can also occur during the manufacturing process or after sensor replacement. If a sensor is not calibrated correctly, it will provide inaccurate readings, which can cause problems in the vehicle’s performance and safety systems.
